Powers, Hiram
(29 jun. 1805, Woodstock, Vt., EE.UU.–27 jun. 1873, Florencia, Italia).

Escultor italiano de origen estadounidense. Trabajó como artista ayudante en un museo de cera en Cincinnati, Ohio, y luego se trasladó a Washington, D.C., donde modeló bustos de figuras como Andrew Jackson (1834). En 1837 se estableció permanentemente en Florencia. Atrajo notoriedad internacional con su mármol La esclava griega (1843), imagen de una joven desnuda encadenada, que causó sensación en la Exposición del Palacio de Cristal de Londres en 1851. Fue un artista de excepcionales habilidades técnicas y uno de los escultores más célebres de su época.
